The free movement of artists is one of Zone Franche’s core concerns, one shared by numerous cultural stakeholders in Europe. The free movement of artists is a core issue for Zone Franche and many other actors in Europe. There are many initiatives, guides, professional meetings and forums and legislation promoting free movement already in place. Why then is artists’ mobility still hindered and continues to be a major preoccupation? Why are professionals constantly confronted with problems that lead to cancellations and all kinds of additional costs? Beyond the technical solutions, we will discuss current advocacy initiatives and outline exclusively political action, including the idea of a European Monitoring Centre for Artistic Mobility.
