What does the music we listen to help us hear about the world? For six centuries, the West has been questioning otherness with an acute conviction of the universality of its analyses. How does it try today to combine the musical knowledge developed throughout its history with that which comes from other cultures? Our Minister of Culture recently declared that ‘all music is equal’. Can the world music market (which mixes popular, academic, historical, heritage and creative musical knowledge) become a place for experimentation, incubation and transmission of all musical knowledge? What happens to this knowledge and to those who create it when it migrates?
