In 2013, Zone Franche brought their last general assembly to a close. They had rallied artists, institutions and professionals, etc., from all over the world. Over the last ten years, the effects of globalisation have multiplied with the rise of the far right: the climate crisis has become an emergency and waves of immigration have raised questions about our ability to welcome the “other” with dignity. In the light of these changes, it is time to update our thinking with regard to the current state of World Music today. This opening conference will explore the impact of these developments as well as inviting participants to reflect on the challenges facing the future of World Music.
