The gritty flow of Indonesia's female hip-hop icon
A pillar of the Asian hip-hop scene, Yacko challenges Indonesian social conventions. A teacher by day and rapper by night, the artist has been navigating the underground for over 20 years, a career that has enabled her to develop a highly polished flow to her dubstep-tinged rap. Actively against patriarchal culture and sexual harassment and fighting for gender equality, she has become the emblem of a whole generation. She is supported by Tuan Tigabelas, a major figure in Indonesian hip-hop, who has been working with her to take her voice further afield.
