The exalted escapades of expatriated maloya
With its ternary rhythms and vocal harmonies, maloya from Reunion Island is continually expanding the repertoire of world music. Soval Chaviré is the perfect illustration of this, born out of an encounter between Yann Tambour (Stranded Horse) and the island’s most ardent defenders of trance. For this project, he is joined by Marc Lacaille (kayamb), Salvador Douezy (pikèr), Annissa Nehari (roulèr) and Boubacar Cissokho (kora) to create a delicate expat maloya, which, despite the distance from the Mascarene Islands, has lost none of its vitality.
