From the popular traditions of the kabars of Reunion Island to jangling post-modern rock, An’Pagay’s electric maloya encapsulates the tumultuous currents of the Indian Ocean and the fertile hybrid expressions of exile. The sound ship, steered by composers Luc Moindranzé Karioudja (Creole vocal lead) and Romain Dugelay (artistic director), sails at high speed through a dense, poly-rhythmic broth. Led by two drummers, bass, alto sax and vocals, An’Pagay revisits the timeless fever of maloya with explosive energy.
